Perfection, the Words of Sovereignty
172 BE: Kamál el Kalimát-i-Sulṭán

BeMy-1-560x561Monday, the 7th day of the 17th month in the year 172 BE––the first year of the 10th Váḥid in the first Kull-i-Shay’ or the “Beginning of the Love of All Things”. The day began at sunset on January 24 for the Badi calendar.

O SON OF SPIRIT!
The best beloved of all things in My sight is Justice; turn not away therefrom if thou desirest Me, and neglect it not that I may confide in thee. By its aid thou shalt see with thine own eyes and not through the eyes of others, and shalt know of thine own knowledge and not through the knowledge of thy neighbor. Ponder this in thy heart; how it behooveth thee to be. Verily justice is My gift to thee and the sign of My loving-kindness. Set it then before thine eyes.

–– Baha’u’llah, Hidden Words Arabic #2

Monday – LAW 2:
The Law of Giving and Receiving

Badi Challenge: Contemplate Perfection (excellence, fullness, consummation, maturity) as the Words (utterance, the word of God) of Sovereignty (king, lord, majesty, sovereign, monarch, authority, potency, the power of sovereignty, the all-possessing, the most potent of rulers).

Whispers

I bear witness, O my God, that Thou hast created me to know Thee and to worship Thee. I testify, at this moment, to my powerlessness and to Thy might, to my poverty and to Thy wealth.
There is none other God but Thee, the Help in Peril, the Self-Subsisting.

–– Baha’u’llah, Prayers and Meditations CLXXXI

Beauty, the Mercy of Sovereignty
172 BE: Jamál el Raḥmat-i-Sulṭán

BeMy-1-560x561Sunday, the 6th day of the 17th month in the year 172 BE––the first year of the 10th Váḥid in the first Kull-i-Shay’ or the “Beginning of the Love of All Things”. The day began at sunset on January 23 for the Badi calendar.

O YE PEOPLE THAT HAVE MINDS TO KNOW AND EARS TO HEAR!
The first call of the Beloved is this: O mystic nightingale! Abide not but in the rose garden of the spirit. O messenger of the Solomon of love! Seek thou no shelter except in the Sheba of the well-beloved, and O immortal phoenix! dwell not save on the mount of faithfulness. Therein is thy habitation, if on the wings of thy soul thou soarest to the realm of the infinite and seekest to attain thy goal.

–– Baha’u’llah, Hidden Words Persian #1

Sunday – LAW 1:
The Law of Pure Potentiality

Badi Challenge: Contemplate Beauty or charm as the Mercy (blessing, grace, favour, loving kindness, providence, compassion) of Sovereignty (king, lord, majesty, sovereign, monarch, authority, potency, the power of sovereignty, the all-possessing, the most potent of rulers).

Whispers

Intone, O My servant, the verses of God that have been received by thee, as intoned by them who have drawn nigh unto Him, that the sweetness of thy melody may kindle thine own soul, and attract the hearts of all men. Whoso reciteth, in the privacy of his chamber, the verses revealed by God, the scattering angels of the Almighty shall scatter abroad the fragrance of the words uttered by his mouth, and shall cause the heart of every righteous man to throb. Though he may, at first, remain unaware of its effect, yet the virtue of the grace vouchsafed unto him must needs sooner or later exercise its influence upon his soul. Thus have the mysteries of the Revelation of God been decreed by virtue of the Will of Him Who is the Source of power and wisdom.
–– Baha’u’llah, Gleanings CXXXVI [para. 2]

Glory, the Light of Sovereignty
172 BE: Jalál el Núr-i-Sulṭán

2013-02-14 04.12.05Saturday, the 5th day of the 17th month in the year 172 BE––the first year of the 10th Váḥid in the first Kull-i-Shay’ or the “Beginning of the Love of All Things”. The day began at sunset on January 22 for the Badi calendar.

O SON OF SPIRIT!
My first counsel is this: Possess a pure, kindly and radiant heart, that thine may be a sovereignty ancient, imperishable and everlasting.

–– Baha’u’llah, Hidden Words Arabic #1

Saturday – LAW 7:
The Law of Dharma (or purpose in Life)

Badi Challenge: Contemplate Glory or majesty as the Light (radiance, brightness, splendour, effulgence, illumination) of Sovereignty (king, lord, majesty, sovereign, monarch, authority, potency, the power of sovereignty, the all-possessing, the most potent of rulers).

Whispers

Blessed is the spot, and the house, and the place, and the city, and the heart, and the mountain, and the refuge, and the cave, and the valley, and the land, and the sea, and the island, and the meadow where mention of God hath been made, and His praise glorified.
–– Baha’u’llah, quoted in The Advent of Divine Justice by Shoghi Effendi [para., “This is the day in which to speak”]

My Reflections of the Day

I’m reminded that our own bodies can be considered a sanctuary for the Holy Spirit or a dwelling place of God. Perhaps, blessedness can be our individual state as well–by our feelings, thoughts, words, deeds in our soul, mind, heart, and body.

“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?”
1 Corinthians 6:9 [King James Version]

With that in mind, exploring the purpose of human life is inviting. If the FIRST advice given tells us to steward our hearts, then what must be the divine mission entrusted to each of us? Perhaps more importantly, how is each one of us to carry out that mission given the diversity of talents, interests, and capacities we display? Indeed, it seems this has been the question down through the ages. The answers espoused have varied and often no answer is proffered.

Here are some notions to consider:

  • At the macro level: humankind
All men have been created to carry forward an ever-advancing civilization. The Almighty beareth Me witness: To act like the beasts of the field is unworthy of man. Those virtues that befit his dignity are forbearance, mercy, compassion and loving-kindness towards all the peoples and kindreds of the earth.
    –– Baha’u’llah, Gleanings CIX
  • At the micro level: individuals
The Prophets and Messengers of God have been sent down for the sole purpose of guiding mankind to the straight Path of Truth. The purpose underlying Their revelation hath been to educate all men, that they may, at the hour of death, ascend, in the utmost purity and sanctity and with absolute detachment, to the throne of the Most High.
    –– Baha’u’llah, Gleanings LXXXI

[NOTE: Please forgive English, “All men” is inclusive without gender distinction; mankind, humankind.]

Perhaps the answer is more personal . . . how shall a person acquire and apply divine education to attain purity, sanctity and absolute detachment?

Key to the Badi Calendar:
